MALI, NIGER AND BURKINA FASO ARE LEAVING ECOWAS
Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger decided to leave the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
In the joint statement published by Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, it was announced that Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger will withdraw from the 15-member ECOWAS as soon as possible.
In the declaration, it was stated that ECOWAS, accused of "being under the influence of foreign powers" and "betraying its principles", posed a "threat" to these three countries.
In the declaration, it was stated that ECOWAS did not help these 3 countries in their fight against terrorism, and it was emphasized that when these countries wanted to take steps in this regard, they were subjected to "inconceivable" and "illegal" sanctions.
THEY FOUNDED THE SAHEL ALLIANCE
Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger established the "Alliance of Sahel States (AES)" in September 2023. According to the AES, an attack on one of the signatory countries will be considered as an attack on all other countries, and all parties, including the use of armed force, individually or will be able to respond collectively.
