COUP IN GABON
In Gabon, which is home to one of France s 4 permanent military bases in Africa, a group of senior soldiers led by Brice Oligui Nguema announced that they had seized the administration by canceling the election results.
Speaking on national television, the soldiers announced that the election won by Ali Bongo was canceled and all borders were closed.
Noting that all security forces were with them, the soldiers stated that they put an end to the current regime.
President Bongo, who suffered a stroke in 2018, stepped out of office for close to a year and faced calls to step down. Rejecting the calls, Bongo announced his candidacy for the elections that opened the doors of the military coup.
