REALITIES AND SOME FACTS ABOUT ABYEI REGION

1. Which Tribes claim ownership rights on Abyei Region?

a) Dinka Ngoks =  Southern Sudan president Salva Kiir's tribe. They number around 1.5 million people, constituting about 10% of the population of the entire country, and constitute the largest ethnic tribe in South Sudan. They identify themselve as Africans. Following the war, Christianity predominated over Dinka religious practices, being introduced to the region by British missionaries in the 19th century and during the civil war.Sizable groups of Dinka refugees may be found in distant lands, including Jacksonville, Florida and Clarkston, a working-class suburb of Atlanta, Georgia and in Mid West such as Omaha NE, Des Monies IA Sioux foll, SD and Kansas, Missouri, as well as Edmonton in Canada. During the inwar they sided by Southern Rebels ( SPLA/SPLM ).

b) Messiria or Arab Messiriya Tribe = They are primarily nomadic cattle herders and their journeys are dependent upon the seasons of the year. Numbering over 1 million. They are Muslims. They identify themselve as Arabic-Africans.  During the inwar they sided by Sudanese Government.

2. The Dinka Ngok and Misseriya also remain at loggerheads over who gets to vote. The Dinka say only that and a handful of settled Misseriya tradespeople count as residents. The Misseriya are demanding equal voting rights to the Dinka.

31 March 2011 >  Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir has insisted the problem of Abyei cannot be solved without the Arab Misseriya nomads participating in a referendum on the status of the disputed border region.

"We are saying, loud and clear, that there will be no referendum on Abyei without the Misseriya,"

5. Abyei have Sudan's best water resources

 6. Abyei have very rich pastures

With the National Congress Party (NCP) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) unable to reach agreement on the Abyei referendum scheduled for January 2011, tensions are rising sharply over claims that the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) have increased their presence in the Abyei area—especially, according to local people, around Abyei’s disputed oil fields.

Northern Sudan and new Southern Sudan Governments can not share Abyei since independency of Sudan from Great Britain !  There are 3 basic reasons : OIL , WATER and LAND.  Like most of smart people we are asking too: Which is the essential reason ?

A) Muslim Arabs are mixing the region ?

B) Christian Western countries are mixing the region ?

C) Traditional Petrol Cartel doesn't want to allow Chinese petrolium company to have the biggest share from Sudan's rich petrol resources ?

D) Global economic/politic blocks are willing to change maps in North/East Africa as well as other strategical areas ?
