INNOVATOR OF THE YEAR COMPETITION CALL FROM AIDF

Dear AfroTurk members,

One of our global associates AIDF (Aid & International Development Forum ) informed us the Innovator of the year competition call. The summary of the letter is in below:

In the wake of global warming and an increasing number of natural disasters, the debate at the 2017 Climate Change Summit has led to implementation of insurance funding. The most recent Typhoon in Southern Vietnam took over 100 lives, while Japan is still recovering from the 2011 earthquake with one third of evacuees still living in temporary housing. While reducing global warming could potentially decrease the risk of natural disasters, how to ensure successful recovery of the countries and people already affected?

Antibiotics Awareness Week highlights that resistance to antibiotics is a serious threat with 700,000 people dying every year worldwide from infections that no longer respond to antibiotics. One of the diseases becoming resistant to antibiotics is pneumonia. Save the Children has launched the Fighting for Breath campaign to encourage prevention of the deadly illness.

The Aid & International Development Forum is currently accepting nominations for the Innovator of the Year Award. The competition aims to recognise individuals for their inspiring leadership, creative problem-solving and implementation of innovative programmes that have helped drive Africa’s progress towards SDGs. The winner will be announced at the Aid & Development Africa Summit on 28th February 2018 in Nairobi, Kenya. To make a nomination and for more information, click here.

Looking forward to receiving your entries!
